Mel Morris...
That's a toughie, but it looks like
Eliassa (variant of Elissa perhaps)

Not a name I'm familiar with
I note that Ancestry has transcribed it as Elivena but I'm not convinced.

Charani...
I'm not convinced Ancestry has it right either but in this case I
don't blame them for it, esp as all the other names are perfectly
clear.

I wondered about Elissa as well but I can't find anything in the GRO
indices like it. I didn't want to give any of the possible names so
as not to influence anyone.

It was obviously not a name the enumerator was familiar with either
and made the best job he could of it.

Thanks for having a look :))

Just to add my two penneth worth I`m more with Ancestry but I dont
think its a V I think after looking at the surrounding pages Its
something along the lines of Elioena. There is such a name, as is there
Eleona but not in this country. As to the GRO is there anything in that
area in that time frame appart fron the norm eg Elizabeth Eliza Ellen
Emily etc because I can`t see anything! Do you have more info as to the
earlier census that could pin point them in fact that are not easily
visable in subsequent ones or is it just me?

Charani...
That census is the only one the child appears in. By the next one
she'd have been 24 so more than likely married and she's not
immediately apparent on the 1861. I've no more information about her
at all. I haven't been able to find her mother in 1861 either.

I've found 3 Elviras, all born in Merthyr Tydfil, all born in 1857.
Otherwise its the usual girls names.

With Bristol being a port, it's possible that Frances' husband was a
mariner, so a non English name is a possibility.

Peter Heather...
I know you said Francis should be spelled Frances, but it is clear on
the census image that Francis is male, as his age is in that column. I
think the mother is absent, not the father. Presumably the mother is
called something other than Frances (unless you know that is the case
from other information). Does that help to find the family in other
years?

Yes, I know FrancEs is enumerated as a FrancIs but I have her with her
children (apart from the dau) in the 1881 census. It's definitely the
same family.

Of course, there is the possibility that FrancEs married a FrancIs,
that it is FrancEs who's missing from the 1871 census, as you suggest,
and FrancIs died before the 1881 census, leaving the widow to marry
her boarder.

There are too many Thomas EVANS to be sure which one is the correct
one. I think I've found James EVANS and I'm waiting on the birth
certificate to confirm. It's the 14 year old dau that I'd like to
find.
