FreeBMD restricted by adverts?

Peter J Seymour...
I was using FreeBMD yesterday afternoon (Sunday), probably not a good
idea since many other people were likely to be doing the same. I kept
having the problem where freeBMD was responding fairly quickly but the
loading of the results page would hang at the Ancestry advert at the top
something like that.
Presumably what was going on here was that freeBMD was working well
enough and responding in a timely fashion, but ancestry was overloaded
and not responding and in failing to respond was effectively preventing
freebmd was functioning. I don't suppose there was anything malicious
going on, merely that ancestry seems to have a lack of capacity.
Has anyone else noticed this behaviour?

Dave Mayall...
The adverts aren't actually coming from Ancestry, they are hosted on a third
party site (commission junction).

I will, however raise it with Commission Junction as an issue.

If the OP still has a problem...

If you know the URL where the advert is coming from it's possible to put an
entry in the "hosts file" to block the request your computer makes to
download the advert.

Peter

john...
I suspect Ancestry had computer problems (or were doing maintenance) - I
couldn't log on yesterday afternoon.
