He seems to make a habit of it - although we only know about it when
the recipient mentions it here. Ignore him.

Ignore him. He makes a habit of being abusive in emails.
You weren't whinging and I doubt anyone else took it to be a whinge
either. It was obvious you were quoting. Good lord, you even had the
quote marks around the relevant phrase.

whinge but was merely quoting part of the Head Teacher's reply to my
message. In fact, my original message to the school was sent via their
webpage and I merely asked if they could tell me when the college was
founded. My request was apparently forwarded to the Head Teacher and he
very kindly offered to look through what they had in case there was any
mention of my uncle.
For some 20 years I worked as a School Registrar and one part of my job
entailed the sorting and storing of students records so I can more than
understand "the skill and effort in records handling and indexing".
What a shame that you entirely misunderstood my message to the group. My
main aim was to offer names to anyone who may have had ancestors who
attended that College.
