I have an aunt that emigrated from Scotland to Australia in 1912. She was
aged 17 at that time and her occupation on the ships records was shown as
"domestic"
Also travelling on the same ship was 20 young single females whose
occupations were also shown as "domestic".
What I would like to know is if there was a scheme in Scotland to recruit
and train domestic staff or would these girls occupations just be described
as domestic for want of a better description?
