East Riding Archives and Beverley Local Studies Library on the Move
The East Riding Archives Service's and Beverley Local Studies Library's
normal public service will be seriously disrupted over the next few months
as preparations are made for the move of its collections into the new
Treasure House building in Beverley.
The Treasure House is an exciting new project that will bring Archives,
Local Studies and Museum Services closer together. It will offer a joined
up service for the enjoyment of the East Riding's heritage and culture with

a new reading room, storage areas, education room and exhibition space. All
of this in a landmark building linked to the Library and Art gallery to
create one cultural centre.
During the course of the move disruption to the Archives Service is
unavoidable. Access to the collections will be restricted from the
beginning of August 2006 until at least the end of the year. It will not be
possible to provide access to original documents as they will be in the
process of being packaged, labelled or moved. It will be possible to see
sources on microfiche, such as the parish registers, until the end of
September. Users needing the Register of Deeds for legal searches can also
do so until the end of September.
In summary:
No original documents will be available after 28 July
Microfiche/film (such as parish registers) will be available by appointment
on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays 9.30 am to 4.45 pm until 28 September.
The Register of Deeds will be available by appointment for legal searches on
Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays 9.30 am to 4.45 pm until 28 September.
The Service will be closed on Tuesday evenings after 25 July.
The Service will be closed from 2 October until the opening of the Treasure
House early in 2007.
I would be very grateful if you could bring this to the attention of anyone
intending on visiting the office. Further information about the Treasure
House or the restrictions on the Archives Service's public reading room can
