I am trying to find Abraham Richardson, age 4 who was born in Seacomb,
Birkenhead (but shown on 1891 census as being born in Liverpool). His
mother was Mary Ann Richardson (nee Carter - b 1852 in Liverpool).
Abraham's father, David Richardson, died in the 3rd quarter of 1880.

Don't know if this helps, but the township of Seacombe
(Poulton-cum-Seacombe) is part of Wallasey, not Birkenhead, and never has
been. This could help if you are searching by place name?

Have just double checked the birth certificate and it describes
Poulton-cum-Seacombe as being in the registration district of Birkenhead in
the sub-district of Wallasey. So I guess the answer is that you have to be
flexible and try all possible alternatives.

I think it is a possibility that Abraham and his mother were possibly in
Scotland. I can't find Abraham's grandfather, William born 1821 in
Scotland, either.
Has anyone access to the 1881 census for Scotland, or has anyone any
creative way of finding Abraham, Mary Ann and William in England in 1881?
I have found them in 1861, 1871 and 1891.
Thank you in advance for your help.

The Mary Ann and Abraham on '1891' appear to be in a large family of 7
children. Mary Ann is shown as wife to (as far as I can tell without
any credits left on 'Ancestry') George Richardson. Is it possible that
you are confusing two families? There is only one Abraham born 1877 in
Liverpool who comes up on an 'Ancestry' search. (The second on the list
claims to have been born in Russia!)

Thanks - we are pretty sure that this is the same family. George was David
Richardson's brother and was therefore Abraham's uncle. We believe that
Mary Ann either married him, or said she was married to him. We have birth
certificates of both Abraham and one of the younger children and Mary Ann
was nee Carter on both. David was father on Abraham and George was father
on the other. What we can find is any trace of them in 1881.
