Hello, everyone:
I am trying to determine the surname of a woman who lived, common law,
with our great uncle. The great uncle was married, but separated from
his wife, thence to "take up housekeeping" with the woman of current
interest.
Would this lady's name appear in the electoral rolls from c1925ff?

Indeed. Women had to be (as well as over 30) either ratepayers or the
wives of ratepayers, so she would only be there if she represented
herself as his wife.

Thank you, Don. So, I should be able to find this individual in the
household.
Cheers,

Many thanks for these details, Stan. We have photographs of this lady,
even a small heirloom from her home ... my parents would visit with her
during visits to England ... but no one thought to ask her last name!
And now, of course, all of those elders and the next generation, our
parents, are gone ... so we must resort to the records. Sad, that,
isn't it.

I might find her in our great-uncle's will. Aside from that, any other
sources which might provide the mystery lady's surname?
