I have found a census record from a ship containing what appears to be
my grandfathers name, unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a reference
to the ships name anywhere, any ideas? The census sheet has the

That reduces it to 3728 people! Can we please have folio/page and/or
your grandfather's name.

Sorry, you're right. It's page 7, name Thomas O'Brien. The figure "92"
also is present in the top rh corner near the page number.

That figure "92" is the folio number.

Which (for "new readers") describes both sides of that particular
single sheet/document which has been produced by disassembling the
book, thus requiring the conventional (i.e. some documents number the
piece of paper, not the individual face/side) page number for
completeness.

Ancestry shows the ship as the "Majestic". I can't tell if your email
addressed is munged or not, so I've tried using the "share" feature to
forward the description page. If you don't receive it, you may be
interested to know that the vessel was stationed at Gibraltar.

"92" is the folio number. Fairly important! Just wind the film back (or
equivalent process depending how you're viewing it) until you get to the
description of the vessel. It's on folio 88.

Thanks, although "winding back" gets a little expensive without a full
subscription to 1901census.com!

You can work out the page you need from the folio and page number that
you already know - just count back without actually viewing the
intermediate pages.

You need to give us the folio and page numbers - the piece number isn't
enough. The name of the ship will almost certainly be shown on the View
Record page under ED, institution, or vessel.
