Wee Peem...
Come upon a minor hurdle.
Was all set to fit many pieces of Family history jigsaw togeether with the
arrival of a marriage certicate giving the grooms father's name......alas
this was missing.

Can anyone give a possible reason for this ommision.

Eve McLaughlin...
Normally that the man was illegitimate. However, if this is an early
registration, say at the beginning of the 1840s, then some of the clergy
were being stroppy about what they chose to record - they had never put
names of fathers in the past, so they were not going to now.
Your best move is to locate him in census (1851), find the stated
birthplace and search the registers. Given luck, they may be indexed on
the IGI/familysearch.

Why not at least put in mothers name?

Eve McLaughlin...
Because it said father's name? Is there a name for the father of the
bride? If so, then mere stroppiness is not the answer, and illegitimacy
probably is.

Down side is that he would have been born in 1822, so cannot obtain birth
cert from GRO. Guesss its a trip to the area to try to locate his birth
record at the church

Ann...
The usual reason for omitting the father's name is that the groom was
illegitimate and no father was known. The mother didn't count for such
purposes. You could try the IGI or the parish registers for his birth,
but if he was illegitimate the record may well not show a father either.

Ken Gibb...
If & when you check the Census & "find him " & the birhplace check
that Parish for "little gems" such as Workhouse & / or Parish Chest.
