Tids...
Really enjoyed Who Do You Think You Are last night.

Daphne Tregear...
So did I. But did you notice that in each case Paxman, Hancock and Fry
all had photographs. It's not fair! My hubby's lot have not a sausage in
the pictorial line. Nothing in the 20th century even. While this hasn't
hindered my slog back through census, civil registration and parish
records, I've ended up with vital details and no faces to hang on them
(yes, OK, I know we need to wait until about the 1850s for the boom to
start in studio portraits). So we are faceless peasants as well.

I don't know how many 'celebrities' they auditioned for this series;
maybe more were looked at but they lacked the photographs and other
artefacts to add the interest and therefore got dropped? I'm sure
there's no shortage of people with interesting ancestors. It's the
winning combo of daredevil g-grandfather and the snap of him that's a
killer.

I know from my genealogy how exciting it can be as I
discovered I descended from Romany Gypsies.....but
does anyone else have any exciting finds in their past?

Graeme Wall...
There's reason to think my Grandfather may have been a spy.

Graeme -

How extraordinary. I have reason to believe my father in law may have
been, just after WW I and through the early '20s.

Have you tried tracing any 'Personnel Records' that one can check at the
Elephant House, I wonder? I have a feeling that in all probability the
Freedom of Information Act will be said not to apply!

Graeme Wall...
He didn't leave the army until 1924 so his records haven't been released yet,
assuming they still exist.

Yours Aye Andrew Sellon

Alf...
Missed the program, at first my lot seemed pretty dull, apart for one
family, who emigrated to the US in the early 1900's, three generations,
parents, children and their children. Since then I've found one charactor
who had a regular place at the local assizes, assault, poaching, assault
with a bill hook. I'm currently looking at the possibility that another one
was transported for theft.

JohnB...
Not exactly sure of the details but my Great-grandfather's sister had
something to do with the invention of Bisto!
