Sherry...
I've been thinking about joining, but it's *really* expensive for the
"research" membership. I had thought about joining a few years ago when
it was a bit cheaper but since I'm on the other side of the continent
from the library, didn't see any sense and thought if I got to go to
Mass. some day, I'd join.

Well, I see they have a lot of databases online now. I have family lines
tied to Mass, Maine, Maryland, Connecticut, New York and possibly New
Hampshire. Just wondering if any of you are research members and have
found it worth the $$ ???

This doesn't exactly address your question, but I bought their CD set of the
NEHGR about 8-10? years ago and got good value from that. At that same time, I
considered membership and it was quite expensive then also. The geographic
distance and cost steered me away from membership even though I had a library
card for BPL at the time. I think I felt at the time that membership might
possibly get me somewhere, but only very incrementally and not worth the price.

My general practice for my NE research was to spend my money buying materials
that were of use to me and that I could get my hands on such as History of
Newton, Mass by Jackson, History of Charlestown, NH by Saunderson, etc. I enjoy
having them right here in my library.

I haven't been doing any NE research for a few years, but your tip made me look
and I see they only want $75 to search those databases for a year. That doesn't
seem bad to me. It's a heck of a lot less that Ancestry :( and only about twice
what I paid for Godfrey. However, and having said that, if the list under
"Popular Databases" is all they have then I'm not interest as I believe I've
been through those already.
