Clive in Kent...
Having just got back into genealogy after a break of over a year I was
perplexed when using the FamilySearch I.G.I search. When I call up a search,
get a list of results, click on an individual result to view the details,
click the "back" button on my browser to return to the list of results only
to find that the list has disappeared with a message saying I need to click
"refresh" to return to the screen! I do this but all I then happens is I get
a brand new blank IGI Search screen! I presumed something had changed with

Are you sure you have identical security settings on the two machines?
FamilySearch is very heavy on JavaScript. If you haven't already done
so, I'd put FamilySearch in as a "Trusted Site" on the rogue machine and
see what happens.

Thanks Steven

That sounds feasible. I'll take a look when I get home tonight

the site since I'd last used it. However when I went to use the site on my
PC at work I found I could use the search with no such problems. Both my
home PC and work PC run XP Pro with IE6. Does anyone out there have any
ideas why the site should operate differently on the two machines!

All replies and advice greatly appreciated

use refine search button
in top right corner of results page

Clive in Kent...
Thanks for your input Hugh but think you've mis-understood my problem. What
I'm trying to get back to is my list of search results (where the "refine
search" displays). What happens is:
1) I search
2) A list of results displays
3) I click on 1 result to view the details
4) Having viewed the details I click the browser "back" button to go back to
my list of search results
5) I then get an almost blank screen with a message saying that I need to
re-submit information or hit the "refresh" button.
6) I cant re-submit info on this screen so I hit "refresh" and then i get a
blank IGI search page (ie back to square 1!)

As I say this only occurs on my home PC. My office PC does not come up with
this problem. Exctly same browser and operating system on both!

Denis Beauregard...
Check your set up in that case.

Anyway, I hate Internet Exploder (a.k.a. the virus catcher) and would
suggest you to try Firefox instead. You may got a virus at home, or
it can be some other application has changed your set up. With MSIE,
you never know how did what.

"The usual suspects" for Internet Explorer:

Click on Tools, Internet Options;
delete cookies
delete files (and all offline content)
clear history
Go to Advanced tab and restore defaults.

Might also consider setting defaults for Security and Privacy.

Hugh Watkins...
I don't have that probelem with MS IE

I do use rightclick new window a lot to read on

Hope this clarifies
