Folks:
Charles Comeau married Osithe Bernard Jan 8, 1810 Bonaventure.
I show Charles as the son of Jean Comeau and Esther LeBlanc. This
information is taken from Les Registres de La Gaspesie by Patrice Gallant. A
friend says that he is the son of Jean Comeau and Esther Babin.
Can anyone clarify which is correct?

Louis Como de Pisiguit as the father and no mother. Charles is 22,
here since 10 years Bonaventure repertoire has Jean as the father.
So, any source giving the mother is somewhat guessing.
Charles is thus born about 1788. The guess of Patrice Gallant is
based on a Charles born 1780 in Carleton, difference is 8 years
(30 instead of 22 y.o.) which is too large in my opinion. So I would
say the father is another Jean to be identified. As Roger said the
other couple is in Louisiana, this other one is less likely. So,
can be some Jean Louis already in Acadia at that time. By the way,
the record has Pisiguit as place of origin while Arsenault has
Nipisiguit.
Pisiguit is Windsor, NS, while Nipisiguit is Bathurst, NB.

Bonjour George,
I haven't seen this reference by Patrice Gallant. However, according to
Bona Arsenault, Jean Comeau and Esther Leblanc married in
St-Martinville, Louisiana on 20 Jan 1786 and three of their children
married in the same area. It seems surprising to me that another son
would have ended up in Bonaventure.
As for Jean Comeau and Esther Babin, they seem to have lived in
Bonaventure where son Jean married Angélique Landry in 1802.
Salut !
