mspeed1...
Hi soc.genealogy.french,

I always thought that Posey was a derivative/anglicization of a French
surname.

Denis Beauregard...
Can be Posé (Pose), Pausé, Pauzé, etc. even Posey

Is the surname Posey most likely a French surname or could it be
English?? If it is French, what might be the most prevalent French
spelling? Pochet, Pouchet, or...?

Denis Beauregard...
Pochet would be another name

Also, for the surname DeBow? Is this an anglicization of DuBois?

Denis Beauregard...
Possible. But keep in mind that the translation is not
the same each time. It can be Dutch (De Bow), but also De Bosc,
Du Bosc, Dubosc, Dubos, Dubeau, etc.

Thanks for any assistance from researchers familiar with the
anglicization of French surnames,
Melissa

My DeBows are from late-1700s New Jersey & 1800s Tennessee, my Poseys
from late-1700s South Carolina & 1800s Alabama.

Denis Beauregard...
If French, likely Huguenots with a step in Holland or England.
