Laury Walkey...
I need to send some Euros to a small archive in Germany and am having
some difficulties. Other researchers have recommended not sending money
orders as they cannot be redeemed (?), so well-concealed cash is the
better option. However, I cannot obtain the required 11 Euros locally.
I can get 10 or 15, but if I send too little, I won't get the documents
and if I send too much, I won't get any refund, I'm sure.

Christa Sobczak...
No, you probably won't. It is going to cost you a small amount of money
one way or another to send currency internationally. That is the way things
are. Do not worry about 4 euros, instead be happy you are able to get the
documents you want.

Many archives and civil registry offices do not accept cash. The cheapest
and most efficient way for me has been to use International Currency
Express, Inc. online. Their service fee is $10 for a draft in any amount.
This is a small amount compared to what most banks charge for similar
services.

I do not speak German and have tried to ask the archivist how I can send
the money but I think I was told to check with my bank. Of course, my
bank says send a money order. I wrote the archivist back and asked for
other ways to send the money but have not had a response (probably the
archivist doesn't speak English...)

Surely there must be *some* way that I can send money overseas. Why
can't an international money order be redeemed?

Laury Walkey...
No.

Help!

Thanks kindly.
