AUGUST LUTZEN B. 1780

I am searching for information on my great, great, great grandfather, August
Lutzen, born around Gottingen, south of Hannover
about 1780 and died in New York City around 1855. He had a son in 1820 named
Friedrich (my great, great grandfather).

are you sure the name is Lutzen and not Lutz? Where did you find this
name, may be in a German church record, saying something like
"Friedrich, August Lutzen ehelich lediger Sohn"?

Do you know anything better than Göttingen (with umlaut) concerning
August's place of birth? Do you know Friedrich's place of birth? If so
there is a chance to find the records of the family.

Btw my grandfather's name was August Lutz, but the family didn't live in
the Göttingen area.

Tarmstedt.

However, there are 282 Luetzen, or Lützen listings. None of these are in
either of the three Goettingen (Göttingen) locations. But, some may be in
postal codes nearby to one of them. I believe the one you are speaking of
is 37073-37085 Göttingen, which is about 200 km or 120 miles south of
Hannover. You might do some more searching in the telephone directory and
trying connecting with those Luetzen you find nearby to your Goettingen.
