saki...
I'm trying to figure out whether there's a modern translation for whatever
type of consumption (tuberculosis) this might be.

My researcher in Hannover says that "Kehlschwindsucht" is "gorge
tuberculosis" but I can't quite grasp the sense of it in English.

"Kehl" looks like "respiratory" but that seems rather reundant.

Celia Mitschelen...
Waller's 1890 German/English Medical Dictionary published Leipzig defines
"Kehlkopfschwindsucht" as laryngeal phthisis or tuberculosis.

That was the closest I could get to it. Dates and area can make a difference
in what a word means or even if it was one that was used. BTW I checked Kehl
in an 1823 dictionary and throat was also given as a definition and that
would make more sense.

Any clarification for this term?

Henning Boettcher...
The word for the combinatory 'Kehl-' is 'die Kehle'.
The English word for 'Kehle' is 'throat'.

Thanks very much.

Many thanks in advance.
