I wonder if anyone could shed any light on this Benedicta Foljambe for me
please.
The Visitations of Derbyshire, Familae Minorium Gentium and the Woolley MSS
all show the wife of Tristram Revel of Carnthwaite/Carlingthwaite/Carnfield
in Derbyshire to be Benedicta, the daughter of John Foljambe of
Parkhouses/Peckhouses/Parkhall. Of course its possible that Woolley and FMG
are just following the visitation.

Have you seen these two documents from PROCAT, linking Godfrey
Foljambe, probably the nephew of the Godfrey of whom you have written,
and Tristram Revel?
(1)
Godfrey FULLJAMBE, esquire, son and heir of Roger Fuljambe, v. Tristram
REVELL of Barnyghwayt (sic), gentleman.: Detention of deeds relating to
a messuage, cottage and land in Brampton.: DERBY. 1386-1558 [C
1/1501/59]
(2)
William, great-grandson and heir of Lawrence Caskyn. Godfrey Fulljambe.
v. Tristram Revell.: Detention of deeds relating to tenements in
Brampton. Copies of bills.: Derby. 1532-1538 [C 1/768/26]

Tristram's father Hugh died in 1504, and mentioned Tristram in his will in
such a way as to imply that he was more than a mere child. Tristram was
still active in 1532, and his son Hugh married before 1539, so I would
therefore estimate this marriage to Benedicta to be in the first decade or
two of the 16th century.
The senior line of the Foljambe family was at that time in the manor of
Walton in the parish of Chesterfield, where Lyson (in Magna Britannia v5
p75) states that "Park-hall on the site of the old mansion of the Foljambes,
is now a farm-house". This would seem to imply that Benedicta's father was
close to the senior line - certainly at least as close as when 1387/8 when
Walton came into the family.
However looking through what I can find in the archives, and in the Foljambe
pedigree on Chris Phillips' site, and elsewhere, I'm unable to place him.
There appears to have been a John (died young 1499), who couldn't have been
old enough to have a daughter by his father Godfrey's birthdate of 1472.
Godfrey also had a younger brother John, who apparently also died young
(although I don't know at what age).
Godfrey also had a daughter Benedicta of about the right age, but she is
discounted, both by her father's name and her marriage to Sir William
Dunham.
The only other possibility would seem to have been if Thomas (married 1454,
died 1467) had a son John, but he apparently died sp, so no joy there
either.
Discounting all these, it appears as though John may have been further from
the main line after all.

One of the Foljambe documents from A2A shows that Godfrey's mother was
named Bennet [Benedicta], so presumably any other Benedictas in the
family would stem from this lady's marriage into the Foljambe - perhaps
circa 1470, according to the date you cite above. Either other
Benedictas would likely be descendants of hers, or closely connected to
her (eg if she had acted as godmother):
FILE [no title] - ref. DD/FJ/4/7/6 - date: 21 June 1513
[from Scope and Content] Will of Godfrey Fulgeham, esq.,
"intending to go over the see with the kynges grace". Mentions wife
Katheryne, sons Jas. and Godfrey, ds. Bennette and Katheryne wife of
Thos. Nevyll, mother Bennet F., and brother Roger F.

Ah, here I am teaching you to suck eggs: Chris Phillips already has
these details on his superb site: she was Benedict Vernon.
Douglas Richardson...

She was Bennet Vernon, as in the will you cite. Benedict(a) is the
Latin form of Bennet.

As my original post in this thread makes clear.

The a2a website contains copius amounts of Foljambe material, but again
there are no clues apparent there.
I'd be very grateful for any thoughts on this. I'd shelved it a couple of
years ago, but happened upon it again yesterday, and decided to have another
look !
