Today I came across a pedigree in Misc. Gen. & Her. that traces the
Coplestones of Devon from the marriage of Robert Tresilian to Emeline de

According to Roskell (HOP), Tresilian was the second of Emmeline
Huish's three husbands, and her heir appears to have been Sir John
Colshull, son of the third marriage. Am I right in assuming therefore
that the Coplestone descent from the second marriage is via a daughter
by Sir Robert Tresilian?

Hiwis, daughter of Richard de Hewis and Alice "Blanchmonster" (sounds
like something in Ghostbusters). I note that the Blanchminsters were
discussed just over a year ago, and their connection to Turet was also
mentioned.
A web search turns up the following book which may prove illuminating:
Goulding (R.W) Compiled by, RECORDS OF THE CHARITY KNOWN AS
BLANCHMINSTER'S CHARITY. In the Parish of Stratton, County of Cornwall,
until the year 1832. With introduction and notes on the families of
Turet, Blanchminster, Hiwis and Colshull. Stratton and Bude: 1898

I have also looked for this work. If you find it I would appreciate a
post of anything of interest regarding this Blancmister line.
My current construction of this family appears below, corrections and
comments appreciated.

Forgive my ignorance, but who are the people downstream of this couple
that are of interest? Is there any connection to the Agnes Coplestone who

Sir Walter Raleigh's paternal g-g-grandfather married a Coplestone, and
they are also found in the tree of Oliver Mainwaring, a colonial Ct
immigrant with several descendants on this list. (The connection to
Mainwaring, through Pollard, is debated, it being variously reported
that the Pollard wife was either daughter or sister of Elizabeth Hawley,

Sorry, I meant to say sister-in-law - basically, which John was the
father is variously reported.

but probably the former.) I was interested in how it fed into the
Blanchmister/Hiwis discussion of last year.

was ancestral to the CT immigrant Thomas Trowbridge?

She was sister of the first John above, which would make her daughter of
Adam, son of Richard, according to the chart I was reporting.

Roskell et al, HoP 1386-1421 Vol II in their entry for the younger John
Coplestone (d1458) state that he was "son and heir of John Coplestone
of Coppleston ?by Katherine Graas of Tengrace", noting that "his mother
may have been Alice, to whom John Copplestone was married before 1384".
Has this been definitively resolved?

(don't you just love all those dates, allowing a precise chronological
framework.)
As to the book on the Blanchminster Charity, WorldCat shows a copy at
Cambridge, while A2A identifies a copy, along with a pedigree file in a
local parish church.

Descendants of Reynold Blancminster

|
R.L. Bowley in his "The Fortunate Isles: The story of the Isles of
Scilly" (London, 1996) gives the Blancminsters of Scilly thus:
1. Ranulph Blancminster, granted the Isles of Scilly by Edward I, 1306;
had licence to crenellate Ennor Castle on St Mary's from Edward II;
died 1348; IPM 22 Edward III. Issue:
2. (son), ovp. Issue:
3. Gandewin (sic) Blancminster, heir to his grandfather, 1348, then
aged about nine; his wardship granted to William Morrers/Morier. Issue
(apparently, although called by Bowley ("son and successor to
Ranulph"):
4. Sir John Blancminster, MP for Cornwall temps Edward III.
Bowley states, without going into the particulars, that the
Blancminsters were succeeded in the Scillies by the Coleshills.
Roskell et al in HOP 1386-1421 vol II state that Sir John Colshull,
Lord of Scilly and MP for Cornwall (d 1413) married Emmaline (d
14.10.1413) daughter of Richard Huish of Huish, Devon, widow of Thomas
Tregoose and Sir Robert Tresilian (ex 1388).
