Jean Bunot pointed out to me that I had copied an error from ES III/4 tafel 700
Here is given that Robert II de Beaumont 'le Bossu', 2nd Earl of Leicester, married Amicie, daughter of Raoul de Gael and Emma FitzOsbern.
This Raoul/Ralph was also Earl of Norfolk and Suffolk. Thanks to Jean Bunot, realising this error I looked up CP IX 571-574 which covers this Ralph. In footnotes is given that Ralph and Emma had three sons :
1.William
2.Raoul/Ralph father of Amicie
3.Alan
This footnote implies that William died without children as his brother Raoul/Ralph was his heir.
By Raoul/Ralph only the daughter Amicie is mentioned. Alan, the third son, went on crusade with his father.
This footnote continues after the remark of Alan going on crusade with : The Breton estates remained vested in de male descendants of Ralph III , who at the beginning of the 15th century acquired the great baronies of Laval and Vitre by marriage with the heiress of the house of Montmorency-Laval.
Reading the whole line of this family, I presume, Ralph (I) is Ralph the Staller, 1st Earl of Norfolk, Ralph (II) is his son and Ralph III is he the father of Amicie? Which means that he had more children.
CP gives some very important clues and with those I found in ES XIV tafel 145 Jean de Montfort, Seigneur de Kergolay, changed his name to Guy XIII, Sire de Laval et de Vitre, being married to Anne, Dame de Laval (of the house of Montmorency). Sadly, this Tafel does not give enough information to link this Jean/Guy back to the family of Amicie.
All it gives is:
Raoul VII de Montfort, died circa 8 June 1406 married Isabeau de Loheac, Dame de la Roche Bernard,
parents of
Raoul VIII Sire de Montfort-La-Cane et de la Roche-Bernard, died August 1419, married Jeanne de Kergorlay,
parents of
Jean de Montfort who became Guy XIII de Laval
Would anyone know the link between the Earls of Norfolk and Raoul VII ?
With many thanks.
