Henry Brownlee...
Just received an email from Family Heritage advising me that "Your
Family is Making History." The first thing you see in their email
picture is Ancestry.com.

Lesley Robertson...
From the rumblings in alt.gen and s.g.brit, just about eveyone got it - I
wonder whether Ancestry realises how like Halberts it makes them lokk.....

Henry Brownlee...
Doc,

At least they did not offer to sell me my "Family Coat of Arms."

Lesley Robertson...
Hi Henry,
True, but if it's the same message I had, they offered to tell me what my
name means, and where my ancestors were likely to have come from! Sounded
very like one I had a year or two back (on paper) assuring me that my family
had been very important in Dutch history and I should pay them to find out
how..... It arrived with another one addressed to the people I bought the
house from, telling them that their family had been very important, etc,
etc. More reasonable in their case since they were at least Dutch!

Henry Brownlee...
Doc,

Sounds identical to the email I received - but I wonder if yours
mentioned to advise you of the last of your Family Name to arrive in
America and if the family distribution map was also of the United
States?

Lesley Robertson...
I didn't read that far, and I think I deleted it as wel......

Henry Brownlee...
Doc,

Being closely related to Curious George, I had to see what they had to
offer and clicked on their link. 8~)

Lesley Robertson...
I've found myself in some VERY curious websites by just clicking on
links...... On one occaision I actually had to hit the reset button on my pc
to get out of a site that seemed to involve nudists doing agriculture....
Very confusing, so I'm very careful about which links I use these days!

I can get a special book (printed just for me) that tells the meaning
of my surname, its origin, the name of the country in which it
originated (in many cases), when the last people with my last name
came to America, etc. etc.

All this for just $49.95! Of course, they say that I should check out
my last name to be sure that they have enough info about it to put
into a book; if they don't, they can advise me when they do have
enough info. (There is a link to click on to check this.) They tell me
their info comes from billions of online records and "other trusted
sources."

Anybody out there have a surname they think Ancestry/Family
Heritage/whatever does not have enough information about in order to
print up their special book?

Denis Beauregard...
Try any random series of letters...

I saw this kind of junk in web-search ads appearing in my site. They
had some data for the family alkhdkjah for example. When I saw that,
I banned the link from my site and asked to web-search to ban them. But
it is obvious anyone could easily start the same kind of business.
A mere web search daily and they can rocket a monthly newsletter
just for you !
