Today's paper shows a picture of a Manhattan sized iceberg that broke away
from the north sea ice cap. Many people will believe this will result in
rising sea levels. Even the writers of the article attest to the fact that
this berg will have nothing to do with rising sealevels.
Most of us know this. What is alarming, to me, is the many so called
science-smart politicians mislead so many through innuendo and assumptions
into believing that melting ice will flood New York and most major cities.

Bingo. Correct. Melting icebergs will not effect the sea level, but all
the rest of the melting ice will. What is misleading about that? You
argument, starts out with icebergs and then suddenly switches to
melting ice. Caught you.

Anybody wanting to demonstrate that a melting iceberg has no effect on water
level may want to share my experiment with those in doubt. Please take a

Not needed, it is obvious.

I have nothing to sell nor advocate. It's a simple experiment disproving
what a lot of fear-mongers misrepresent. Nuff said.

Care to point out an example of an environmental scientist who makes
your alleged claim?

Al Gore's parade of pseudo-scientists in his film?

Now, I'll have to watch the film again, because I sure don't remember
any of them making the claim that you have been asserting. Do you
remember where in the film this occurs? If what you say is true it
certainly is misleading.
Here is another experiment for you: Put some water in a large measuring
cup, say 250 ml. Now dump a dozen ice cubes into the cup. Do you think
the water will A. stay the same level or B. rise ?

Thanks Dave for keeping this thread alive and interesting. I'm not claiming
anything. I'm just trying to demonstrate a physical fact through
experimentation according to scientififc methodoloy, that an experiment must
be observable to all. And the observer is to make their own decisions.
I have said again and again that an iceberg meling in water will not raise
the level of the containing water. And that too many advocates of this or
that are distorting the fact throug inuendo and misleading statements.
Otherwise why would so many people belive that ocean levels will rise as the
ice melts?
Enough.
