Since I know that some of you like to criticize Fox News, I thought I would
add some fuel to the fire. I just turned on the TV and saw Shepard Smith on
the rooftop with some Fox News female reporter. There was a warning that
more rockets were on their way. Smith crouched next to a chair, and I must
say he looked downright foolish. If some rocket hit near them, crouching is
not going to do him a whole lot of good. In the meantime of course, the
cameraman was pointing his camera down at him, and I could not help but
wonder if the cameraman was standing behind his camera, while this brave
reporters was crouching. Kind of amusing to me.

I think the camera was mounted on a tripod. It remained motionless and
did not budge when they heard explosions a few hundred yards behind the
camera.

It "might" have been on a tripod after they set the shot up, but someone had
to move that camera to where Shepard Smith finally ended up, on his knees.

Most likely it was, and the cameraman was probably standing behing the
camera making sure that the reporter was staying in frame. The
reporters do face some danger, but their staff people are at even
greater risk and frim time to time a cameraman gets taken out. They
however, are replaceable unlike hot shot news people.

It seems a display of macho when these guys -- and Shepard Smith
and Fox are not the only ones -- suddenly appear in the midst of some
conflict or other. As if their commentary was particularly useful,
except to illustrate it is a dangerous place to be. On the other
hand, there are journalists who risk their lives on a daily basis
covering the various conflicts for more than a spot of airtime.
They are in these areas over time, and therefore have more of
use to say, seems to me.
