American ID theft victim's SS # used by 81+ illegal aliens [FWD]

DUBLIN, Calif. — Audra Schmierer's Social Security number really gets
around. It has been used by at least 81 people in 17 states, including
Arizona, most of them probably illegal immigrants trying to get work.

Schmierer hopes the new number will end her frustrations, but she
suspects her old number will continue to be misused.

"It's clear to me that because my number has been used for so long,
it's
not going to stop," she said.

The Social Security Administration knows where the 81 people are, and
what companies they are working for, so why don't they have them
arrested?

You only get credit if SS#, Name, DOB and address match SS records.
The SS notifies an employer if there is a mismatch about 6-9 months
after the first tax payments. The employer doesnt have to do anything
under current law, but has sanctions under the stalled proposed law.
Under the proposed law the SS Agency becomes the chief enforcer of
economic identity. Just what they need. One item is that the
voluntary "insta-check" SS# matching service for employers
becomes mandatory. It is currently used by less than one in a
thousand employers.

Because they have to protect the privacy of Aliens?
