One of those humble wonder women.
Passed away last night. How long these women waited to have their

actions. she can be saluted as a pioneer, but her 'achievements'
were in the wrong direction.

Was the actress Hedy Lamar really a pioneer of
frequency hopping in cryptography? I'm not even
sure what frequency-hopping is, but it sounds
impressive.

I think the document is talking about spectrum hopping, where a radio
transmission is "scattered" randomly across the transmission spectrum.

I found on web-search, at:
that Lamarr collaborated with George Antheil, the
composer, on the system. I'm much more
familiar with Antheil than Lamarr, but I had no idea
he was in on it either. Apparently from the above,
the technique make use of piano rolls.
