I haven't had a cavity for years so I don't know what the usual cost of a
filling is. I paid $360 today. Does that sound about right?

Could be for a molar and large city dentist.
Fron teeth are less expensive.

No x-rays before drilling?

Sounds very, very high. Depends on the size of the filling, of
course, but I have paid more like $70- $100.

Sounds high but I have paid over $200

To work in your mouth would be worth a $1,000.
I pay $35 to $45 in Los Algodones, Mexico.

Pat, I seriously doubt you paid $360 for a filling.
I am fairly certain you had an examination, possibly two or more xrays and
then a filling.
Considering that a typical general dental practice runs an overhead of
between $200-300 per hour, and a visit such as yours would take about 30-45

If he can't run a business, he needs to get a job at the Post
Office. Let's figure if a dentist fills three teeth an hour at $120
each, he takes in $360 an hour.
He pays his dental Hygienist about $25 an hour. A receptionist gets
about $15 an hour. His rent and other overhead ought not to be over
$4.00 an hour.

$640/month for rent, electricity, telephone, office supplies and equipment,
amortizing his professional equipment, professional liability insurance for
himself, health and other benefits for his employees..........maybe at the South
Pole, but you've got to be kidding about getting by for that little anywhere in
the US. I can't believe that you gave that one very much thought,
Gary.........I can't believe that you're serious.

That leaves Old Painless Parker pocketing about $316 an hour. Al
Capone just barely cleared that much.

$4/ hour!? I can see that you don't have a dental office to run. :)

minutes then you probably came out right in the average.

My dentist has 2 dental assistants, and three receptionists, billing
clerks. The dental techs work per diem.. She has 3 fully equipped
state of the art setups of which 2 have xray machines. Beautiful
offices which are about 1500 square feet. It's quite an overhead.

It makes you wonder how many sound teeth she must attact daily to meet
her expenses..

If it was a simple filling, that is VERY high. $75 to $100 would be
more common.

I get a discount to $250 if I pay my Senior Dental
Insurance early-- ie before expiration. So I think that
you're in the right ball park without insurance. My
coverage isn't that good. But if I don't have any
fillings, then I don't pay much at all for the two
visits I can get each year. BTW IIRC I would pay close
to $300 if I didn't renew early.
