Hello to All,
I've been reading the postings here for a while but this is my first
contribution. A friend and I were discussing a topic which I thought
perhaps would be interesting to the group. And we are very interested
in hearing different opinions on this topic.
The topic is "retirement communities" and the availability of
information on the internet, through search engines. [Actually, the
topic could also be defined as "where to retire", or "senior housing
alternatives" or "relocation after retirement" or many other similar
terms.]
So anyway, I'm wondering if people have tried to find information on
locations, communities, housing, etc. etc. and found the results
lacking somehow. One of the reasons I'm asking is, I never seem to be
able to find the information I'm really looking for, because all the
related websites are limited to local areas, are sponsored by
commercial real estate interests, are a small part of a larger
"retirement living" website, or nothing but links to other websites.
Any thoughts you have on this topic would be much appreciated --
including the best place(s) to find this kind of information.
Best regards,
EBT

I disagree with statement that most Seniors don't have computers.
Seniornet has been in existence for 20 years and has learning centers
all over the world. Most adult schools and Senior Centers have
computer classes for Seniors. Check out:

There really is quite a bit of information availabble on retirement
communities in different parts of the country. Different magazines like
Money and U.S. News and World Report have periodically listed them.
There is a wealth of information on the web as well if you do a
"web-searchSearch" with exactly what info you seek. Do a search on Del Webb
Retirement Communities and it will list dozens of thier facilities all
over the U.S. Here is where I happen to live.

The Military Officer, the monthly publication of the MOAA, invariably has
numerous ads in it from military retirement communities trying to attract
potential applicants. In addition, I recall seeing articles from time to
time in which the plusses and minusses of different retirement locations are
discussed. That's an obvious source for members.

I can't imagine that the retired enlisted organizations aren't also serving
their members by providing them similar information.
