Cody's Book Store on Telegraph Ave, Berkeley, has gone out of business.

It's a sad day, folks.

El Castor...
I can recall browsing the shelves before the tear gas had a chance to
dissipate. Whew! Had to leave. Too hard on the eyes.

California Poppy...
NOT!. The selection of books is far better online at places such as
Amazon.com. Barnes and Noble has done a better job of adapting to new
times with both online and brick and mortar bookstores surviving.

Rita...
There is nothing online to match the sheer delight of browsing in
person in a diverse and well-stocked brick and mortar bookstore.
You can take a book from a shelf and leaf through it to get a "taste".
Yes, Amazon has reviews, but not the same.

Also, some real bookstores specialize in certain types of books
and there used to be many choices among them in larger cities.
And even smaller bookstores had "thoughtful" collections that
made it easy to select from the best in a genre. And stores
specializing in mysteries or cookbooks or travel.

Some of us, Connie, love bookstores. You will not convince us
we are better off without them.

Around here it's time for the owners to retire and the kids have found things
that they like better. Was this a retirement sale?
