What if we just opened the borders?

Golden State Poppy...
I heard the economist, Milton Friedman, say that so long as we didn't
offer welfare benefits to illegal immigrants, it would not be a
problem. If they had a job, they would pay their taxes. If not, they
would go home when a job ended. Consider our border with Canada. The
only time people come here is to visit or if they have a guaranteed
job. Perhaps it would be the same with Mexico. I don't know.

And the first thing they do when they become majority population in
South Texas, Florida, California and other places is elect Hispanic
candidates who are the most radical on all immigration issues
demanding instant citizenship, Spanish language rights including in
government, and otherwise changing our basic culture to the culture
they left behind. It is NOT the same as Italian or Irish heritage
where something is left behind that influences their thinking. They
are Mexicans first and not at all American in their view. Just listen
to them in their marches.

European immigrants of whatever ilk made a clean break with the old
continent and became Americans. Mexicans have their links to their original
culture right next door to be refreshed anew with each wave of illegals.
Indeed, they even cross back and forth within what is to them simply one
land area and see absolutely no need to submit to acculturation and remain
Mexicans.

The estimate goes as high as 193 million in next 20 years and this is
combined with our resident population that can't even reproduce at
existing numbers.

That's bull. A great many illegals come in from Canada.

I love what Friedman usually says, but this time I have to disagree. People
are not inclined to go home if they do not have a shot at living a resonably
good life when they do go home. Canadians, don't have that problem.
