Illegal Immigration - A Thought

Jerry Okamura...
We should all know that rich countries like Saudi Arabia and Kuwait bring in
people from other countries to do the grunt work, so that the citizens of
their country do not have to do the grunt work. So, my question is, what is
inherently wrong with illegal aliens doing the grunt work?

Earl...
They and their children will never leave.

In the countries noted above the "guest workers" are held in
semi-slavery and can be evicted at will. They have to show up
regularly to government official who can put them on a boat at a
harsh word. The slaves do not go around booing the national flag
or otherwise making a pest of themselves.

Jerry Okamura...
Still does not change what I said...

Alan Lichtenstein...
Well Said, Earl.

Alan Lichtenstein...
You left out the critical qualification that Earl made. In the
countries cited, they are regulated, their children cannot become
citizens, and they go home when the labor is finished.

Alan Lichtenstein...
They won't. But that was the whole point of Earl's post, unless I got
him wrong. His comparison of our situation with other Middle-Eastern
countries indicated precisely that. Those countries 'invite' guest
laborers, and even guest professionals. But they are closely monitored,
and when the finish their jobs, they leave. I believe that was Earl's

Earl...
Precisely.

And as a counter example, countries which let in large numbers
of "guest workers" and grant them/their children citizenship we
have France and Germany. Their social unrest demonstrates the
flaws associated with unassimilated immigration.

The Chinese have been providing "instant" factories for the
garment trade. Small out of the way countrry has a US textile
quota, fine; China will build the factory, bring in the workers
and then remove them if the business loses the quota. The
government officials just collect the taxes and payoffs.

Switzerland is the most extreme in granting citizenship. The
citizens of the individual cantons have to vote to approve
citizenship, not just for foreigners, also for individuals who
moved from the neighboring canton.

Joan...
I think I like this one - let's see what the US Congress can do with
this idea:)

point.

Rita...
Exactly!

Earl...
Just for the information.
The Irish (legal) immigration of the 1840's had about 25% of the
people turn around and go back as soon as they had the money.

Jerry Okamura...
I do not know if "they" had the clout, or the special interest groups had
the "clout". But, personally I see nothing wrong with giving them the right
to get a drivers license, simply because they will drive with or without
that license. At least if they had a license, there is the possibility they
will also have insruance, because without a license, you can guarantee that
they will not have insurnace...

El Castor...
I can't entirely disagree with you, but why must the license be
identical? Couldn't it be tinted green, or something? That suggestion
caused the boys in Sacramento to go nuts. Completely unacceptable. Why
do you suppose that was?

Jerry Okamura...
Who in their right mind would tell anyone that they are in this country
illegally, just to get a drivers license?

"The moonbats bark thrice at midnight."

Back to an island that was starving.

Jerry Okamura...
"If" they do....

Jerry Okamura...
I would think you have to be a legal resident to have nay real say in what
happens in America....

El Castor...
If Mexicans become sufficiently indispensable, they will not have to
say a thing -- others will say it for them, which is exactly what is
happening.
In any event, I am sure that many are currently voting. Why do you
suppose it's illegal in California for a poll worker to ask a voter
for an ID?

Jerry Okamura...
I seem to recall that when I was living there, the poll workers did ask for
my ID, but someone who still lives in California would know the answer to
that question.
