It's 60 years today that the Russians liberated Auschwitz, no doubt
there have been/will be memorial services held.

grapevine in operation and a small group of British soldiers decided
that getting rescued by 'Ivan' wasn't necessarily a good option :-)

And a wonderful memory to keep. Eglinton Park BTW is in my part of the

It seems only a few years ago I was helping dad decorate my
grandmother's house and removing the remnants of the 'Welcome Home Ron'
banner from the front :-)

Hear, hear,
We visited Auschwitz and Birkenau on our visit to Poland last summer.
This was the most solemnizing experience we have ever experienced.
Visiting Auschwitz and Birkenau has an immediate effect, we went with a
bubbly group of people but going round the site we hardly said a word to
each other it really makes you so introspective. You can't believe the
scale of what happened until you make the visit. Go, but be prepared to

I have looked at the web site and e-mailed them but I'm not sure I
could handle a visit.
Soaking in the bath and thinking about it I decided it must actually be
the 61st anniversary, if it's the 60th the impact on my age and
parentage doesn't bear thinking about :-)
