Jeff Gaines...
My motor policy is due for renewal next week and I thought I would see
what is available online. Got some good quotes, saving around £100.

I went ahead with Churchill, paid by credit card and the documents arrived
this morning. There was a note in the letter saying the theft cover would
not be valid until I installed a Thatcham approved immobiliser - this
wasn't indicated on the web page(s).

Oh you must have a high risk vehicle. Is it the Rolls ???:-)

I 'phoned them and explained that the car has the standard Suzuki
immobiliser. They said they didn't have much information on that but
suggested that I go ahead since it was only a problem if the car was
stolen when they would need evidence that it was approved!!!

I have been into Fordingbridge and arranged cover with the local broker
and am about to send all the documents back to Churchill. Has anybody else
had this sort of experience? It seems incredible to me that they happily
take your money and then impose a pretty major limitation on the cover
without making it clear when you pay.

I went with Churchill around 3 years ago when they saved me about £100 on
the best quote from my then Insurance Company - Cornhill. Two years later
Churchill's renwal quote had risen so much that I change again - this time
to Saga, who saved me just over £100 again. So watch out for the Churchill
rates. I think they also gave new customers a special discount which you
don't the next time. They had however accepted the Toyota
alarm/immobiliser system that is factory installed on my Celica as OK.

Yep unfair selling IMHO.
