JoeH...
Anyone else having problems at the moment?

I can't get any web pages.

Tickettyboo...
mine seems ok Joe

JoeH...
Wrong answer - I'm stumped LOL

Tickettyboo...
What dns servers are you using? I change mine a lot cos they seem to flit
in and out. Currently have 212.159.6.9 and 212.159.6.10.
other than that, have you tried 'repairing' the connection ( which will
flush the dns stuff) .. or rebooting your router?

pmj...
& even if that doesn't make the prob actually Fixted, it will give
you something to do!
:-)

& it will Help you find out a little bit more about the many different
& various things that can all cause probs.

JoeH...
It definitely appears to be a DNS problem, I can get to NIN if I use
130.133.1.4.

Aha it's now working (I have rebooted the router and changed the DNS
servers).

Tickettyboo...
Apparently, the recommended advice is to have it set as automatic from the
isp, but despite what 'should' be ok, I find that now and then that goes

pmj...
Yep.
But the IP Adresses you gave above (that I gather you are using as
manually Entered IP Addresses for the DNS Servers?) - 212.159.6.9
and 212.159.6.10 - are exactly the same IP ADdresses as a PlusNet
ADSL Connection gets Automatically Assigned (by the DHCP)!!!

So, wouldn't it make sense (if you're going to Manually Enter them)
to Enter some *other* IP Addresses?

Tickettyboo...
My dealings with pootas rarely make sense sweetie. It is usually hit and

pmj...
Maybe, but as you go on, finding out a bit more about things like that,
then it *will* begin to make more sense!

(or if you meant that in another way) what you are doing may be
bit more sensible)...

Tickettyboo...
I hate being sensible - its no fun!

miss if I say something that will help, but I just carry on anyway.

pmj...
Yep, (but see above) you can always get to do a bit more stuff that
isn't quite so "hit & miss"!
:-)

pmj...
So, wouldn't it be logical (even for "Boo" Logic?), to do things
that have a definite effect, rather than always doing things "hit
& miss" & just carrying on anyway?

Isn't that a bit of a waste of time?
If it's Brokted, carrying on the same isn't likely to make it Fixted,
is it?

Telling me what 'should' happen, really doesn't change what 'does'
happen..no matter how many times you repeat it LOL!

pmj...
I didn't say anything about what "should" happen did I?

Though with things like DNS & DHCP, it *is* actually very clearly
& specifically & defined as to what *Should* happen, so when it doesn't
it's actually quite easy to go through a series of basic, simple steps
to determine *what* the problem is & *where* it is, so you can then
either Make it Fixted or ask the appropriate people to make it Fixted
(or just forget about it & go & do something else & hope that someone
else does all that sort of "Faffing" around & it becomes Fixted)

If you do the basics for yourself, you can then go & do whatever
else it is (outside or elsewhere in the House) that you want to do
sooner!
:-)

Rather than spending ages doing things that don't make it Fixted.

& if you get the basics sorted, & eliminate the usual suspects,
then usually, (i.e in the majority of cases), it *does* make it
Fixted, so you can then get on & do whatever it is you wanted to do
on the Net in the first place.

jelly tots up. No real idea if that is a problem my end or theirs, but

pmj...
I s'pose it *could*, possibly be something wrong with the DHCP
(Dynamic Host Control Protocol) stuff, & it isn't actually Assigning
the IP Addresses?

But JoeH could check that, by seeing what his Router says it has been
Assigned for the IP Addresses of the DNS Servers

every now and then I fiddle if there is a prob and specify the servers.

pmj...
Can I ask you?...

Tickettyboo...
Looks like it, cos you did

pmj...
& can you (will?) you answer it then?
:-)

When you Specify the IP Addresses of the DNS Servers, do you do that
in your *PC*s TCP Settings?
Or do you do it in the Router?

Thanks Boo, you are a top techie LOL.

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
Mine are w*rking OK Joe, it's just that I still have a download speed of
only 240 kbps. Otherwise everything appears to be w*rk&ng fine.

datasmog...
I haven't been following your ongoing problems so sorry if this has been
asked before, but have you tried any other equipment, modems, routers,
PC's on your line?
Has BT checked your line?

pmj...
Yep!
She seems to have got a very useful blend of her own special kind
of "Boo Logic" & knowing which bits are worth "Fiddling" with!!!
& knowing *how* to do the "Fiddling" - mainly by having tried it.
:-)

Tickettyboo...
ooh... next time I talk to That Nice Mr Lear I am gonna tell him that..lol
he likes a good laugh!

pmj...
Well, he knows a lot about supporting (Corporate type) Computers -
Errr.... Sorry I mean "Workstations"... so you have a little bit
further to go, before you know as much as him about that sort of
thing...

But I'm sure he won't laugh at your abilities to suss out *Internet*
related probs!!!
:-)

Tickettyboo...
You don't know him very well, do you ? lol
