Subject kinda says it :)

Hang on...,
I got it writted on a piece of paper.
|
frogman...
|
A lot later now than it was when you asked the question :-)
pmj...
|
LOL!!!
:-)
But it's still an Hour ahead of whatever Time it is in the UK
:-)
& that applies in both the Summer & Winter, cos Spain (like the UK)
implements DST - Daylight Saving Time.

|
pmj...

(That's Madrid), but the whole of Spain is in the same Time Zone).
& also...
&...
That one shows you not only the Time (Offset from GMT) around the
world, but also the Daylight/Nighttime is shown on it as well.
&...
Etc, etc.
Spain is 1 Hour ahead of the UK (the same as most of the rest of
Western Europe is - it's only Portugal that is one Hour behind all
them & is the same as the UK) & they observe DST - Daylight Saving
Time - when they add an Hour (the same as we do here in the UK),
so that means they are always (Winter & Summer) 1 Hour ahead of us.

If you are saying Portugal are one hour ahead of us then that is wrong!
pmj...
|
Well, I was actually *trying* to say that it was only Portugal that
*isn't* one Hour ahead of us!!!

Has anyone informed the Irish, I wonder?
JoeH...
|
LOL - and the people of Gran Canaria etc.

Don't forget Iceland! They stay on GMT all year round :-)
pmj...
|
|
I said that Spain is one Hour ahead of us (like (most of) the rest
of Western Europe) & that Portugal was an example of why I said it
was only *most* (& not all) of Western Europe that is one Hour ahead
of us...
:-)
& I also said that it (meaning Portugal) was the same as the UK
|
Portugal keeps GMT, but adds one hour DST, same as we do. If you look at
pmj...
|
Yep, which is what I thought that Paragraph (above) was saying?
|
pmj...
|
Yep - I agree that wasn't explicitly stated in the Paragraph that
I wrote.
I said "they (observe DST)" & I agree that it wasn't clear whether
that word related to just Spain, or all of Western Europe, (including
Spain & Portugal etc,) or just the ones that were an Hour ahead of us.
But in this instance, even if the word "they" was taken as meaning
(only) Spain, that would enable Boypete to work out the time over
there, at any time of Year (& if he was particularly interested in
Portugal, he could ask for clarification, or refer to the Sites that
I mentioned.
|
worldtime.com you'll see that Lisbon is at the same time as London.
pmj...
|
Yep - I have looked at several of those Sites (& included the URLs
of them, so they could be referred to) & also, as it happens Lisbon
(Portugal) *is* actually Listed in the Options in the windoze Control
Panel Time & Date Options thingy (which is another way people can find
out what the time is elsewhere) - The GMT Time Zone in there is listed
as being (including) - Dublin, Edinburgh, Lisbon, London
Sorry if what I wrote wasn't completely clear - but I was trying to
give a general answer that included the specific Country he mentioned
& also explaining the background that (most of) Western Europe was in
that same Time Zone, the exception being Portugal, which is the same
as the UK, (which is one Hour behind the rest of Western Europe) - or
in other words Western Europe (including Spain, but excluding Portugal)
is one Hour ahead of the UK (& Portugal).

I think the stream of consciousness misplaced a full stop. :-)
pmj...
|
LOL!
Or a Comma, or a bracket, perhaps?
:-)
|
And it was such a simple question.
pmj...
|
Yep - & I thought I gave a reasonably concise, yet comprehensive
& clear & unambiguous Answer? To what is actually a fairly involved
Subject.
Whenever anybody wants to know the time elsewhere in the world
(& how it relates to the time over here) they need to know not
only the Time Zone that the places (here & the other place) is/are
in, but also whether (& how & when) they implement DST (Daylight
Saving Time) Different Countries apply different amounts of DST
& they start & finish it on different Dates.
|
|
|
As well as looking on one of those Sites such as timeanddate.com
& worldtimezone.com, you can look in the Clock on your PC...
DoubleClick the Clock Icon in the System Tray (or use the Date & Time
Control Panel Applet thingy)
Switch to the "Time Zone" Tab & have a look in the DropDown List,
for a Country/Town that is roughly the same Longitude as the one you
are interested in (Oddly enough Spain isn't actually listed separately
in there) & it shows you the Time Zone Offset.
