I've had a look at your Skittles site.

Question - Are skittles played in many places in the UK these days ? or is
the game confined to certain areas ?

I think it's very regional, you don't find it in many areas I've found.
The do seem to play a slightly different version in the West Country and I
know we get a few teams on Shootout weekends from Gloucester but that's all
I know about.

The reason I ask is because I used to play skittles many years ago. I was
an apprentice in an engineering factory in Gloucestershire in the 1960's.
We had a skittles league - each department had their own team. The games
were played in local pubs (with alleys).

Yes, Gloucester appears to be one area it's popular as mentioned above :)

Quite a few pubs in the area had skittle alleys but I fear this is no
longer the case :-(

I don't think you'd have to look too far there to be honest.

I loved the game - it was taken very seriously by most of our factory
departments but our team (sorry to say) were in it for the beer - we lost
most of our games :-) (But enjoyed them) :-)

Skittles is still very popular in North Devon TH as my SIL plays it every
week as part of a competivie inter pub game :)

They play skittles in a pub we go in in Weymouth and have great fun. We have
also played it in Wivelescome (not sure of spelling) I don't know of any
pubs here in Yorkshire that play it
