Two new digital TV channels

Two new digital TV channels are starting up.

On Sunday Five Life starts broadcasting on Freeview channel 36,
NTL/Telewest channel 186 and Sky 209.

And on Monday Five US starts broadcasting on Freeview channel 35,
NTL/Telewest channel 185 and Sky 207.

I wonder why broadcasters feel there is a need for a channel dedicated to
US programmes, 95% of Sky is garbage from there.

And there appear to be loads of channels specifically for ethnic groups too.
