Clive...
I sthere anyone out there who actually agrees with UK wide Road Tolls?

I agree there are sOME places that should have them, but UK wide?

Personally I believe this is one tax to far on the motorist and can
imagine a lot of backlash

Gareth...
I think any backlash will come too late. Campaigns against it should
start now, not after the government has spent millions on trials. Even
if they start it on just a couple of roads, it'll be like the London
Congestion Zone - it'll gradually spread outwards - and increase in
price!

If the government hadn't got councils to build bus lanes, cycle lanes,
speed humps, mini-roundabouts, traffic islands, chicanes and lower
speed limits in certain areas we wouldn't have the congestion in the
first place.
'They' created the congestion so that they can blame it on the motorist
and tax us more. :-((

Read this

It was in the Telegraph a couple of weeks back. Very interesting and
should be required reading for all local council road traffic managers.
Our illustrious government should get someone to read it to them as
well.

Gareth...
Yes, very interesting article...
and here's the SnipUrl for those who couldn't open the one above.

Michaelangelo...
Remind me who Martin Cassini is and what qualifications he holds?

datasmog...
If you followed the links from that page you would see he's about as
qualified as the next documentary film maker or journalist is to write
based on research of sources available to us all.

Michaelangelo...
So he's just another punter then with no particular knowledge of the
subject. That doesn't surprise me given the obvious flaw in his

datasmog...
Well, he's not a politician so he has some redeeming features.

argument.

datasmog...
Which particular flaw would that be then?
Not wishing to pick an argument here, just curious to know where you
think he's got it wrong.

pandamonium...
It won't happen. There's nothing for anyone to control. These urban road
planner people have a pathalogical need to enforce controls on others.

Ray.Milne...
I agree, and more to the point if the present government insist on
supporting everything under the sum with cash, who's got to provide the
cash?????

pantomonium...
They should stay beneath the bridges out of the way!

The Wanderer...
The corollary to that argument is 'Is there anyone out there who thinks
that the motorist should be allowed to use vehicles as they see fit without
let or hindrance, and without any consideration for the impact on society
as a whole?'

Unfortunately, ownership of a motor vehicle does seem to engender a measure
of selfish behaviour in almost everyone, even the otherwise most caring and
considerate of people.

Ah, an epiphany moment; let's abolish motor vehicles altogether, then there
would be no need for any of this much-hated legislation!

Jeff Gaines...
But we will end up with villages full of children with red hair and webbed
feet if we don't stir the gene pool!

The Wanderer...
How'd you know I had red hair and.......?

Ali...
It's only 90 years or so since Road Tolls were abolished because they were
interfering with trade.

David C....
Possibly, if..........

V.E.D. is abolished & fuel duties / VAT abolished or reduced.

Some hopes, but.........

Gareth...
And don't forget that the government won't pay for the equipment to go
in our vehicles, just like they want us to pay a few hundred pounds for
our own Identity Cards. :-(

pantomonium...
It's all to do with cutting congestion and pollution you know. It has
nothing to do with £28bn that they'll just spend on joining the Americans
for another ill conceived war.

Me...
I think fuel should be £20 a litre road tax £10,000 a year and £10 a
mile road toll. then see how much the tax man gets.
LOL .Then again you can let your mp know how you feel ,thats if he even
cares.Lets face it you will be paying his road tolls.
