A stretcher will fit in my house? The consultant that Mum saw last week said
that she must go as a stretcher case for the CT scan next Tuesday. This was
duly arranged by the XRay Dept. at Kings Lynn. Today Transport ring me to
see if a stretcher will go in my house. So I said "I don't know. I have
never had one in my house." "Well they don't bend" said the very nice lady
at the other end of phone. So I suppose we will see. She also said that I
could go with Mum in ambulance. They don't like to do that as it costs more
, but I can't see how. Probly cos I won't be paying the parking fees.

Jackie...
Perhaps it would have helped if she had given you the dimensions of a
`stretcher`
just so you could measure doorways etc.

I do hope all goes well for your Mum Shaz and they can find some
treatment to help her.

Really sorry to read this Shaz; try not to worry about it too much these
ambulance men (and women) are very good at moving stretchers about. Just
hope it is not too trying for your Mum and she is not too distressed by it
all. I feel for you both having nursed my Mum for years through really
distressing times.God Bless

Thanks Jackie, but I am afraid that we will be told that it is terminal. The
drs who have seen her so far have not held out a lot of hope.

~~Linda~~...
Really sad to read that Shaz, sorry to say I've not managed to keep up with
all the threads and had missed this. With regard to the stretcher access,
we had to have my neighbour carried downstairs in a chair and then moved on
to a stretcher outside the front door but only because our stairs (and his
are the same) go round quite a tight bend. I do hope you can manage it
without it being too distressing for your Mum.

Smokey...
We were always told that if it was medically necessary an escort was allowed
in the ambulance Shaz. Could mum go outside in a chair and transfer to the
stretcher , just a thought?? Make suere that they have also booked your
ambulance for the homeward journey too

It's good that your Mum has you then Shaz to make her time left as
comfortouble as possible. Be strong for her and God help you with that

There are very few places you can't get a streacher in Shaz. It's usually a
problem if your stairs have a turn in them

Mum is downstairs Jen. So it should not be too difficult - I hope.
Yep it is booked for return. Consultant wanted Mum on stretcher as they had

shaz...
Thanks Linda. If they say they can't do it then they will have to think of
another way.

so much difficulty getting her from her wheelchair onto to examination bed
last week. It takes me nearly an hour to get her from her tippy up chair to
the toilet. And even longer to get her to bed and up in the morning. She now
has no strength in her arms and cannot walk. She can stand if I lift her. We
got a special turntable to turn her at night into bed as that is the time
when she has no strength what so ever. Son comes each night to help me move
her on this. Hubby cannot help as he has a curved spine and cannot lift or
stand straight enough. I am just praying that she will not be in too much
pain and keep what little dignity she has left.

Oh Shaz I do know what you are going through as we nursed Dad, He didn't
like us daughters having to care for him but he suffered in silence, God
bless him
