Goose got the above car on Saturday, and whilst checking it over later in
the day saw that the rear nearside fog light wasn't working.
Have just phoned the garage about it to be told" it only has the one rear
fog light".

So's my 10 year old Celica and a third centrally fixed brake light. But
then, it also had a stainless steel exhaust sytem fitted as standard. :)

But is your car a a Toyota or a * Standard* ??? :-)

Read my comment properly next time. :)

You want me to change the habits of a lifetime ( well 8 years anyway ) ???

Some lifetime!! :).

It is if you are a Hamster. In my case it just feels like a lifetime :-)

What *are* you implying?
Rabbit...

It don't seem a day too long :-)
Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°7 +...

But a day is time (24 hours) - long implies lenngth (mm cm m km, or inches
feet yards miles and the rest.
Ali...
|
Long implies duration as well, as in phrases like 'How long have you been
waiting?"
The phrase 'a day is 24 hours long' is more likely to be encountered than
'a day is of 24 hours duration'

Huh!! Someone had to go and ruin my playtime with the Rabbit. :(

You could be so lucky ;-)

It does if you keep confusing the units you are using.

I'm still in old fashioned units, I'll never *see* these new fangled ones

At some point in the 70's I had a Volvo 145s estate. It needed a new
exhaust, so I called into the local main dealer to buy an exhaust to
fit myself. The guy in the parts department looked it up on the
micro-fiche thingy and announced that he had them in stock and it would
be £155 (this was the 70's remember)! Taken aback I muttered something
along the lines of, "No, no. I don't want a stainless one just the
ordinary mild steel version will be fine. "Sir," he said, "£155 IS the
mild steel one. The stainless one is £680." I went off to Kwikfit! :)

And I was told in August 2006 by the Toyota dealer that a complete
replacement stainless steel exhaust on my car would be about £480 fitted.
Hopefully I won't need one yet, as the car is only 9 years 8 months - 49
000 miles old. :).

The Volvo was a nice car but the price of parts was extortionate.
Almost all the parts were made in the UK but in those days they were
shipped to Sweden, re-packed in blue and white Volvo boxes and then
shipped back here again. On the other hand the cars were really well
made and, of course, had a legendary reputation for longevity. The
handbook, describing the workings of the mileometer actually said,"When
it reaches 999,999 miles it will re-set itself to zero and start
again." "Oh good," I thought, when I read that.

Now to my way of thinking a balanced light output in foggy weather is better
than 1 light,(a legal minimum)
If the fitting has it why not use it, it still has a bulb in it.
If the light fitting is common to other Vauxhall models do they just have
one light, or 2.
Why have the fitting in place anyway if the one above is only 1.
Silly or what.

Lots of Fords and Mazdas are the same. They have a rear fog light on the
right side and often a single reversing light on the left.
My Mazda3 has that arrangement, which puts the fog light on the offside
of the car and the reversing light nearest the kerb.

|
Normal! I only have one fog light on my car.
Pam the goose...
|
Yes, but do you have everything there just waiting to be lit up?
My new one has a pair of lights there including a bulb in each!
The only thing missing is the wiring connection - it's been taped back
instead of plugged in.
Once we get the wire in our hands we can plug it in and there'll be two
w*rking lights on the rear!

Ford Focuses Mk1 & Mk2 only have one rear fog light, the unit on the other
side being the reversing light.
Pam the goose...
|
Well, I can understand that, Mike, seems the way to do it when you only have
one of each.
I thought the idea of only one was to save the cost of installing a second!
I can't see the point of going to the trouble of installing, even as far as
the bulb, just to stop it w*rking by taping the connection instead of
plugging it in!!

I think part of the reasoning behind the wiring being there but not plugged
in, is for use in countries that drive on the opposite side of the road to
us. Saves having different wiring looms for left and right-hand drive cars.

I was told by my local garage that only expensive models had two rear
fogs and two rear reversing. My ancient BX GTI has two of each.
However, when returning from Cornwall in fog I was amazed how many
'moderns' only had one rear fog, and observation shows that many have
only one reversing light.
Someone told me that there could be a problem if two rear fogs are
fitted and the offside bulb fails.
I would have thought that one would be better than none if the offside

What, with two foglights fitted - including bulbs - but only one can be
turned on by the dashboard switch?
And two w*orking reversing lights.

your Corsa has a secret.
It's not really a Corsa. It's a Fiat Punto.
Nowadays cars are made on what they call 'platforms'. So my Mazda is
actually a Ford Focus C-Max, and a Skoda Octavia is actually a VW Golf.
Ali...
|
Or is a Ford Focus really a Mazda, and a VW Golf really a Skoda?
|
Your Corsa uses the same platform as the Fiat Punto. That means a lot of
the basics are the same as the Punto, and that could include the wiring
which comes from suppliers in 'looms'. So the readymade lights may have
been finished that way to keep them complete, but the wiring for it
hasn't been supplied. Doing it that way keeps the costs down.

bulb does fail.

If so that's the first time I've heard of Vauxhall and sensible in the same
Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°7 +...

I think all manufacturers do that Pam. Also it's not just the difference
between left and right hand drive cars but also most versions (cheap and
expensive) of one model will have the same wiring loom.

Some cars have the two balnced (appearance) lights bu one is red (fog lamp -
the other (switched separately) is a white reversing lamp. Or sometimes
just a red ;reflector. I share your vies though - better two balanced fog
lamps and two reversing lamps - like the more expensive models. It's just
penny pinching to marginally increase profits.
