Let's find some wordy wine descriptions that almost
make us laugh. For example:

The late , lamented Eric Morecombe ( UK comedian) once did a sketch about
wine tasting.
Took a glass of wine, swirled it, sniffed it, took a sip and rolled it
round his tongue. Then he gave his considered opinion
'Cheeky...with thick ankles '
Been our family's staple pronouncement on wine ever since lol

LOL A great story, Boo.
One of my favorite cartoons from the New Yorker Magazine is a picture of a
huge tank truck barreling down the road. There are big letters on the side
of the tank which say: "Cheap Wine".

Oh, Boo, I love it!
Thank you. LOL

We drink a lot of wine here in South Australia Sea.
We live on the edge of one of the best wine areas in the world ( Maclaren
Vale (50 + cellars))
We don't use any pretentious phrases.
You will hear.................
"Got guts"
"A full on wine"
"Blimey! - that will have you on your back in no time"
"I'm not waiting to cellar it!"
"Don't tell the missus I bought 2 cases"
Etc Plus a few more phrases that have swear words in them ;-)

[...] Well, that's what I mean about wordy wine descriptions.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Muscadet, which I've described as an "anti-Chardonnay,"
is one of those wines that divides wine enthusiasts into
opposing "love it" and "hate it" camps. I love it, but if you
like your white wines big and buttery and full of fruit, you
may prefer to steer clear. This Loire Valley white at its
best is lean and tart, not really shy of fruit but balancing
that character with tart, food-friendly acidity and, at its best,
an attractive minerality that speaks of stones and fresh
rainwater and sometimes an oddly characteristic chalky note
that's oddly reminiscent of clean seashells on an ocean beach."
Reminiscent of clean seashells on an ocean beach???
Sorry, I've never tasted seashells! LOL
Well, that's what I mean about wordy wine descriptions.
Can you find some other examples?
I can't think of anything off the top of my head, Sea, but maybe we ought to
see if Jilly Goolden has written a wine book - that'll be full of 'em lol
I haven't heard of Jilly Goolden.
I'll have to web-search when I get time and inclination.
It was good to get your reply on this thread.
I tried it at 60+ and it lay like a lead balloon. (g)
Ah, I found something about Jilly Goolden:
"Jilly Goolden presented television’s top rated food and drink series, Food
& Drink, for nearly two decades, becoming nationally famous as the most
widely-known wine expert in the country."
Chardonnays are much fatter than Chablis, if you look for Chardonnay from
northern Italy, it is quite similar. Or look for an 'unwooded' Chardonnay
from South Africa or Australia, and you'll find the same sort of flavour."
Fat wine! (lol)
Abbots Cumulo Nimbus Minervois 1998
Only 100% Shiraz grapes from low-yielding Languedoc vineyards go into this
remarkable wine which has a rich, concentrated flavour of ripe plums and
I surmise Splodge likes chocolate!
I've heard of liqueur with a chocolate taste,
but not wine. Interesting.
