I. Noddie-Doff...
Fed-up. Really. My printer is poorly. The

pmj...
In what way?
What is it doing that it shouldn't be?
Or what is it *not* doing, that it should be?

computer has no compassion - right in the middle
of some work it "pops off" with the message -
Energy Saving--blah-blah and closes down on me.

Rabbit...
Look in control panel--power options and see what you have there. On the
*Power Scheme* tab I have always on and I don't have *enable hibernation*
ticked on the hibernate button. It might not be that but it's worth a look.

Hang on a mo...
Can you say what the *exact* Message about this "Error Saving" is?

Is it the standard message generated by the *Monitor*, (when the PC
is Switched off), rather than something generated by the PC?

I ask, cos all the various "Energy Saving" Settings in the PC -
in the Power Options Control Panel thingy (which you can also get
to via the Desktop/Display Options/Properties - on the "Screen Saver"
Tab, behind the [Power...] Button) are designed to Shut Down various
bits of the PC when it's *not* being used!

& Not when it *is* being used!!!

& also, when any of those things are Shut Down by the Operating
System (such as the Hard Disk & Monitor etc,) then they don't show
any message.
& they just start back up again, when you Press any Key (or move
the Mouse).

So it sounds to me as if what's actually happening is that the PC
itself is Turning off (for some reason or other - nothing to do with
any Power Saving Settings - prolly a Crash or Fault on the MotherBoard,
or overheating or something).

& then it's the *Monitor* that shows its standard "Power Saving Mode"
Message, so as to confirm that the Monitor itself is OK & that there's
just no Signal Input going to it.

Ive lost about eight hours slog in all, as this
has happened several times in past week. Meaning I
lose all Ive been doing (repeating some) each

Like some others have said, it's a good idea to Save any work
that you are doing, periodically, so you can always revert to the latest
Saved Version, when you turn the PC back on & Boot it up
again.

time. I'm racing against the d-d thing now in
case it happens in the middle of this. Ill hpe to

Use CTRL+S
Or
Menu>File>Save

In the Message composition Window, periodically, so you don't lose
what you have written, if it crashes.

If it just goes int oPower saving, then it won't do that while you're
using it & if it ever does go into Power saving, then just Press any
Key, (or move the Mouse) to bring it back up.

be back when it's sorted out.. Keep well, or

Rabbit...
What do you keep losing ? Some things like Word can be set to make a back up
every x minutes.

keep up your spirits, All.

John the R-T...
Not sure if I understand what you are saying Marg. Are you using a PC
or a laptop?
If a PC it sounds as though you have power saving enabled.

Start
Control Panel
Power Options
Under Power Schemes select 'Home/Office Desk' or 'Always on'

Looks like your computer is overheating and shutting down as a result.
The energy saving message is the monitor. Standard message when no input
signal is detected.
Check to see if all the fans are working. You will have at least 2. One
in the power supply and one on the processor. If either of them fails it
will produce the results described.
You should attend to this immediately otherwise your pc will be reduced
in usefullness to a rather ugly doorstop.

Tickettyboo...
wow you are the second person in two days who I have seen asking about
this...does yours by any chance laugh at you when it does it? LOL My other
pal reckons hers does.

Dunno what flavour of windows you have Marg, but I have XP and there is a
place where you can tell it that you don't want it to save energy.

Control Panel : Power Options

Power scheme Tab
--------------------

Mine is set as follows

Power Scheme is called 'Home/Office desk' ( or you could use the little
arrow to get a drop down list and choose 'Always On)

Turn off monitor [ after 20 mins] - I set that, you can choose how long
or short a time to have it turn off if you aren't using it. If it happens
and the monitor goes black ,squiggling the
mouse brings it back

Turn off hard disks [ never ] ( again, you can set it to how long you
want it)

System standby [ never ] ( again, you can set it to how long you
want it)

That suits me, but you may want it set differently, have a look and if you
want advice about a particular setting, post back and the clever peeps
will help.
Remember if you go there and make any changes, press the Apply button to

pmj...
Pressing [OK] in a Dialog Box does an "Apply" anyway.

The only difference is that when you Press [Apply], the Dialog Box
stays Open, but when you Click [OK], it Applies the Changes & then
Closes the Dialog Box.

(& Pressing [Close] doesn't explicitly do an [Apply], but any
changes that have been saved by [Apply] are still held)

So, basically, what that means is that you don't have to remember
to Press [Apply] - just Press [OK], when you have made any changes
& finished.

But Press [Apply] if you want to leave the Dialog Box Open, to make
further changes.

Tickettyboo...
and the vessel with the pestle holds the brew that is true

pmj...
Huh?
:-)

What is that all about?
Wadduz that mean?

Is that another one of your "Localised" (Northern) type things?
:-)

Or should I do a web-search for that Phrase?

I've never heard of it.

save the changes.

pmj...
OK...
Will do!
:-)

Marg. :- ((

What OS are you using???

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
Sorry to here that Marg - can't you click on Save every few minutes or so.
That way when it crashes you should only lose the last few minutes worth of
w*rk.
