XP has been rebooting occasionally for a few days now, I searched the web for and found a
solution to untick restart under system failure in the control panel, that
didn't make any difference, it still does it and if the tv is on it switches
that off as well, that is plugged in the same socket bar which has antisurge
and spike protection.

I would discount anything techy and suspect the socket bar. I aint no
electrician ( or techy come to that) but I really doubt that an update to a
firewall could affect the telly.

That's what I have thought all along, but you can't be sure.
You took the trouble to reply to my post all the way from Canada, that's
wonderful, bet you're glad you took your laptop with you, it stops you
being bored while waiting for your plane to be fixted;-)

Plug it into another mains socket without the surge protector and see
what happens.
Always go for the simple things first.
You're possibly trying to fix something that aint broke.

The first thing we did was to check out all the leads, plugs etc, everything
seemed to be ok, no loose connections or anything.
Will try doing that and see what happens. Let's hope it only is something
simple causing it.
We did wonder if there had been some power surges and the protector wasn't
working, but the other TV in the lounge didn't have any glitches.
Thank's Ray.

If the TV is going off too, I'd say it could be a problem in your mains
electric supply.
Faults in circuits can cause fires. I'd get an electrician in to check ASAP
if it were me.

It seemed to coincide with updating Zone Alarm (23 June) last night Z.A
started asking permission for progrannes which had previously been okayed
and in the list. I also updated CC Cleaner about the same time as ZA.( I did
a virus scan on the downloads before I installed them)
I have done all the scans Spybot Ad Aware and AVG. I started to do Trend
Housecall last night but it restarted in the middle of it.
I have done a system restore dated from a week ago and it said there is
nothing to restore as nothing had changed.
I have done a checkdisk, it rebooted at the end of that, not sure if it
finished it or not, but then it wouldn't load windows, I got a screen
asking if I wanted to start W normally or with the last good configuration
so I chose that, it started ok but has since done a re-boot.
I have not installed any more programmes.
Any ideas ?
TIA
Pat
