Got a Firetrust (Mailwasher) newsletter today. It mentioned SiteHound so
I've tried the free version. Basically it protects against dodgy websites.
I like it - anyone else use it ?
Almost tempted to upgrade to the paid for version .....

That sounds very good, have you downloaded it??

Oh yes :-)
It works well. I'm using it with Firefox. Previous versions only worked
with IE it would seem.

any tips on how to use it ?

Since installing it yesterday I find that opening any website, even web-search,
is extremely sluggish. Is this because Sitehound is checking before
pmj...

Yep.
That's the way it (& other similar things) work.
They check the (URL of the) Site against a Database of Sites which
they maintain.
The Database is made up from a mixture of sources, including
individual's submissions, which the Program sends the Firm, based on
what stuff people are looking at.
Some of those things Send the Info back to the Firm (Automatically)
with no User Input (thus amounting to being "SpyWare"!) , while others
only send Info back when the User chooses to do so.

opening. Seems to take about 3 seconds before anything happens.

3 Seconds does seem a bit long!
That rather negates any benefit that having a fast Internet Connection
would give you!

It certainly does. I've taken it off and am now back to almost instant
appearance of a page.
|
There are other things around, which do the same sort of "Site
Checking" things that SiteHound does.
McAfee does something similar.
& also, M$ are including something like that into IE 7
I *hope* that it will be possible to turn it off, cos I really don't
want to (& hope others won't want to) trust micro$oft (or any other
Commercial Firm) with telling me what I want to see on the Web
& whether some Site is safe or not.

I wonder if that affects other people's computers like that as well?

Strange. I'm not noticing any change of speed opening wensites with
Sitehound installed. I've only tried it with Firefox BTW.

I'm using IE6 and I reckon it was taking between 2½ and 3 seconds here.
