Aries...
But is there much mention of it, NO! We hear so much of St Pat's Day and

frogman...
Well my local club always offers drinks at half price on St George's day
but obviously it's strictly members only, so no prizes for guessing
where I will be later :-) hic

Ali...
It was more than mentioned on the children's tv this morning.

other National Days, but not England's National Day. So I am making a
point of mentioning it here and will be flying my cross of St George here
all day today :dancing:

Rabbit...
St Andrews Day rarely gets a mention up here though there are stirrings to
try and get is recognised, made a public holiday even, but there's not
really much support.

Aries...
Stange :(

Join the campaign :))

The Scots are Scots, not British.
The Irish are Irish, not British.
The Welsh are Welsh, not British.
The English ---------- are British, not English.

I'm English and proud of it but what is it with so many English that
they feel they can't admit it??

Aries...
Makes yer think - I wonder ?

Jeff Gaines...
Is it a nationality any more?

I thought there was an issue, perhaps with the last census, where you
were unable to describe yourself as English? It was suggested you
should pick 'Other' and write in 'English'.

Rabbit...
When I first visited America I could on the visa waver form fill in Scottish
for my nationality but they stopped allowing that.

Tickettyboo...
Maybe its not that they dont want to admit it, rather than they they are
quite happy about it and don't feel the need to justify it to anyone else?
Declaration of a pride in one's nationality is so often accompanied by an
aside that contains references to how badly done to the nation is / has
been by x, y and z that its a bit wearing . I am just content to be who I
am and where I am from, don't need to declare it to all and sundry.

Paddyjoe...
I'm different Sandra, I will under no circumstances describe myself as
European, I may have been born in a country in Europe, but that's it. I have
no loyalty to Holland , Belgium, Italy or places like that. I most certainly
will not ever have any loyalty to France or Germany. Racist? I like to think
I'm not but if people think that, then hey, It's their problem.

Being Scottish means not a lot to me either. If that sounds sad, then I
apologise. I have my reasons.

My passport says I'm British, I'm comfortable with that. I love being a
Glaswegian though.

jamps...
Here's my contribution!

Aries...
Well done Jamps, thank you :)

frogman...
Very good Jamps, thank you

Anita...
Hey, that was great, Jamps :)

Pam the goose...
It is indeed - and it's my childhood friend's b'day, too.
Haven't seen her in something like 45 years but I still think of her,
particularly today:)

I have to admit I wish St George's Day had more celebrations, you can't miss
Paddy's Day or St Andrew's Day here, it's celebrated all over the
North-West. But St George only gets church flags and government building
flags. Shame on us English!

Aries...
Shame indeed! The church I attend did not even fly one today :( And that
is definitely an English church

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
There are many areas where local government advocated (in the past) not
flying St George's flag since they reckoned it could offend. Who exactly
could be offended by it is beyond my comprehension. :(

Aries...
Apparently that must be the area I live in then cos not one English flag
did I see on my several journeys out and about today :(

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
Not seen any round here either, but then I haven't been out much today.
I'm wearing my England sports socks though - they have a small cross of St
George on them. I needed some new socks and the local Peacock's are selling
5 pairs for £3-00 - well you know me, can't ignore a bargain - anyhow I can
wear them whilst I'm watching the England matches at the World Cup in
Germany this summer (I mean ont' telly though) LOL

Aries...
you'll need to wear plus fours to show them off lol

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
I'm hoping it'll be warm enough for shorts by then. :)

Old Grizzly...
The local council! .......... coz they didnt fly the flag :(

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
Well web-search are celebraying it today:

Aries...
Well that surprises me because at 8 am this morning the web-search UK was just
plain Google. Perhaps they've had some complaints!

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
I don't arise *that* early. LOL

Ali...
"Cry God for Harry, England and St. George!"
to quote birthday boy William (442)

Aries...
Good to hear :D LOL

Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°6 +...
More accurately, Henry V in his rallying speech before the battle of
Agincourt in 1415.
(according to Ye Great Bard).

Ali...
Is there any evidence Henry V actually said this?
If not my post was entirely accurate, and you just named the character into
whose mouth Shakespeare put his words.

noreen...
Oh yes Val we have got the flags flying round here ;-))))

Steve...
When I was in the local 'Card Shop' on Thursday they had a complete
section dedicated to St George's Day, cards, flags, etc. first time I
had come across this. Who would you send a St Georges day card to?

Aries...
Who would be sending a St Patricks Card either - but lots of people do!

JoeH...
I was in Durham yesterday and saw many English flags and lots of St
George stuff on display :)). Mine you, most of it was in the pubs LOL.

JoeH...
*Mine* you? Please swap this "d" for the errant "e" ;-)

Aries...
Not much down this way tho Joe - as tho the day doesn't exist!

Aries...
via a Scottish ISP LOL
