There was an Arthur Daley in every town.
A classic quote from a local breaker one especially busy night.
"there's enough RF coming out of Watford to light up all the street
lamps".
Angelic Coats...
|
Warrington was like that when I was a teen.
|
Couple that with "who's the eejit with the 7 foot firestick on the
mini?"
Angelic Coats...
|
How about having one on a mini wheel sat on the carport just under my
bedroom window? It later went on a mk2 Escort.
|
good times, good times.
then along came FM and it all went down the toilet.

It got legal, thats never as much fun. ;-)

Gotta go, skip's up.

There's still an Arfur Daley in most towns!
As for FM, I didn't think that any of the old AM breakers were still
alive:-)
datasmog...
|
Just about.
FM is too noisy. Squelch out the hiss and you never hear anyone further
away than your next door neighbour. AM is comparitively noise free, as
is ssb.
I still have a modded Cobra 148GTL DX tucked away, along with a power
amp with a big glowing valve in the middle, compressor mic and a 3
element yagi and rotator. The 5/8 wave Avanti rotted away unfortunately.
I wonder if it all still works?
|
One of our cars had a slide mount & I tried a borrowed AM rig one time, on
a trip to The Netherlands. (Early in the morning, overnight drive from
Dunkirk.) Spoke to a few peeps in NL, but not over-impressed.
Re-fitted the UK-legal FM rig, not expecting to hear any-one, ( in a
motorway service area between Ghent & Antwerp), & found two UK truck
drivers nattering about 40 miles away.
Popped up "on the side" & chatted for a while.
I imagine that since the UK FM requencies weren't used in Europe,
interference wasn't going to be a problem! Also, being in Flanders, the
flat terain helped a lot.

cant remember the rest !!!

You & me both!
CB is stiil out there, but mostly truckers using it last time I
listened.
Since your "20" is in Cornwall, I'm not likely to pop up "on the
side".
Got to go "breaker-break", good buddy.
