Thank's to all who helped me with their suggestions, it seems to have
resolved itself, I am keeping fingers and toes tightly crossed though ;-)

Try a new surge gang if it happens again.

;-)
Will do Bram.

& also, make a note of the Time & what else it affects.
& make sure to notice whether the PC still ReBoots, or just switches
off.
If it *is* a prob with windoze, then it should no longer ReBoot,
if you have Set that Option correctly.
& if it's cos of a dip in the Mains Power, then it should no longer
ReStart, when the Power comes back up, if you have Set the BIOS
Options Correctly.
& if it's actually a fault in the "Power Supply" (in the PC itself),
which some people have suggested, than you can find that out as well.

I am blaming it on the football, and everyone dashing out in the commercials

and half time to make a cuppa . too many people watching telly, using too
much electricity, it has disrupted everything, well that's my theory anyhow

Now that DOES actually happen! Even the fridge going on and off creates ups

Yep - It's been well documented that there are quite a few things
which seem to be so popular, that it causes a "Brownout" [*1] when
everybody puts the Kettle on, during an Interval/Break or at the end
of them.
[*1]
A "Brownout" is a (usually short-lived & temporay) Reduction in
the Voltage of the Mains Supply.
It can occur over quite a wide area.

and downs in the power. Your surge protector is supposed to stop all this.

Ah...
Any Induction Motor - that's with a large Coil (such as a Fridge has)
*can* cause "Spikes" in the Supply & a "Spike" is a bit (well a lot!)
different from a "Brownout"
& also, a "Spike" is different from a "Surge"!
:-)
A "Spike" is a *very* short duration (& usually large & rapid)
increse in the Voltage, whereas a "Surge" is (generally) a slower
(& often lower) Increase.

Well, a "Surge Protector" *is* normally (also), a "Spike" Protector.
Actually what's normally sold as a "Surge" Protector, ought to (more
accurately) be called a "Spike" Protector.
Though some (more expensive ones) really *are* proper "Surge"
Protectors.
BUT...
A "Surge" (or "Spike") Protector *won't* (& isn't designed to)
Protect against "Brownouts" - *Drops* in Voltage.
It can't stop the Mains Votage from *Dropping* (due to a heavy Demand
elsewhere) - all they do is to stop (or lessen the chances of) "Spikes"
from getting through.
To cope with *Drops* in the Voltage, (or even complete loss of Power),
what you need is actually a "UPS" - An Interruptible Power Supply.
& they are (usually) a lot more expensive, cos they need to have
large Batteries in them.

;-) (only kidding, footy fans) but I am sick of it, wonder how much
longer it is going on ??
pmj...
|
Not for too much longer, I hope!
|
Bram...
|
Not watching it so it's not affecting me at all.

Surely, you hear other people talking (& going on & on & on...)
about it?
& you can't miss all the Flags on people's houses & on cars?
|
I don't watch soaps. Well if I do it's to oggle the pretty ladies. I don't
follow the plot at all.
