Help! XP re-installed

Yes, I've re-installed it and my puter's doing everything a lot faster than
it was! I can only think I installed something that it really didn't like.

Before, when I was joined to the Internet (by cable modem, not dial-up) I
had a little icon by the time/day on the right hand end of my taskbar. The
icon was two little puters and I could disable the internet connection by
right clicking the icon and choosing "disable". It was handy when I played a
game so didn't want my connection live.

Now I can't for the life of me find how to get the icon there - anyone know?

Control Panel: Network Connections
Right click the connection you are using, select Properties and then TICK
[/] Show icon in notification area when connected

That icon was a result of me going through an Internet Set Up but I haven't
had to do that this time so I've no idea how to get it back. With this
re-install it set up the Internet connection all on it's own. I just opened
IE, put in an address and it went!

It's ntl cable modem if that's any help:)
