Linedancer...
When we are in the USA for St Patricks day, they make a very big thing of
it, they wear green, with little green bowler hats, drink green beer and eat
corned beef and cabbage (yuk).

Is corned beef and cabbage really a traditional Irish dish ?

datasmog...
Well if it is then they should have been encouraged to keep it to
themselves.
But I wouldn't be surprised if it's just the Merkins assuming that
anything Irish has to be green.
And the corned beef in America is nothing like Fray Bentos.

I saw the St Patricks day parade in New York a couple of years back.
It goes on, and on, and on, and on......................
Watching paint drying is more interesting.

Graham...
I've worked in both the North and South of Ireland and have never
seen it served or heard it mentioned.

Linedancer...
That's what I thought.

I think Walt Disney invented it ;-)

Linedancer...
Well somebody did ;-)

The first time we were there for St Pat's day our American friend made us

Anita Carter...
It was a popular dish during the second world war when meat was rationed.
I also remember having shepherds pie with corned beef used instead of meat -
now that I did enjoy :)

some, it wasn't really very nice, but being polite, as you do, we
complimented her on it, big mistake LOL
We get it every time we go now as a special treat, it is so nice of her to
make us a meal that I couldn't let her think we didn't like it.

Paddyjoe...
It's served in most New York bars on 17th march. I love it. I'm going in
just over two weeks time and I'm so looking forward to it. This is my fifth
visit and I'll be there for five days. Everybody, and I mean everybody in
NYC seems to be or become Irish for that day.
