I keep reading of record high temperatures of 36 C... does anyone know how
these temperatures are measured ?

have some special way of determining their measurements. I got no reason to
doubt my thermometer - it was bought from the Met weather supplies website
and is guaranteed accurate to +/minus .1 of a degree.

I see Graham has anwered that with the Stevenson Screen
I had athermometer in the direct sunlight yesterday and it recorder 45°C,
just 3° less than the internal thermometer in my car when I went to get in
it. And that wasn't in the direct sunlight, just in the greenhouse my car
was acting as
