Parrotfish...
I volunteered to make the cake for my brother's 25th Wedding
Anniversary, and decided to hire 'number' tins.
I'm doing a Fruit and a Sponge, ..... should please everyone !
Has anyone made a numerical Sponge cake ?
The tin is 10 ins long, and 3 ins wide (shaped like a '5' )
Any idea how many eggs I should use ?
Ta everso :o)

Tickettyboo...
I got my cookery book out..lol that is a rare event, its pristine!
There is a section on cakes of unusual shape and they suggest using x
amount of ingredients per pint of water that the tin will hold.
So, look at the quantity you would normally use for a particular tin, see
how many pints it will hold and use that as a basis for the mixture for
the number shaped tins?
Means you gotta do sums, but a lie down afterwards should help your
recovery

Parrotfish...
Hmmmm....... Now here's the problem...........
the number tins don't have bottoms... Lol

Tickettyboo...
Plastic bag inside it to hold the water? Don't think its an exact science

Parrotfish...
Right, it's in the oven :o)
I decided to go with my Dear-Departed MIL's
method.
Weighed 4 large eggs, then measured the same amount in caster sugar,
butter and flour.
OK, so there was some left after I put it in the tin, but if I put it in
a pudding basin with some jam........ and bung it in the microwave,
it'll be jolly good with some custard !
I don't know if your cookery book is the same as mine, but there's not a
lot of *plot*, I think the Cook done it ;o)

... in the larder, with a rolling pin. ;-)

Parrotfish...
Lol, or the X rated version........ Clingfilm and egg-whisk ? ;o)

MCC...
You've been watching too much 'Allo! 'Allo! :-)) But don't forget the wet
celery and the flying helmet

Parrotfish...
Rofl........ Forget the Flying Helmet, I can never catch it !

Foxy at w*rk...
Thinking back to when the boys were young Pf I used to do a double Mrs
Beetons recipe for the numbers
Jen

Parrotfish...
Thanks Jen, I'll have a Google :o)

Cover the bottoms of the number tins with cling film. Or ring the shop where
you got them from - they should know the volume of them or it may be
stamped on them some where. Measure how many pints of water they use. Do the
same with a normal tin using the size the recipe asks for. Then you work out
how many eggs etc you need. Hopefully it should be twice as much or
something simple to work out..

Jackie...
That is a tricky one Pf - could ask my Daughter tonight when she phones she
has lots of cake making books etc. as she does a lot of cake decorating.
